Your Turnitin guidance is moving!
We’re migrating our content to a new guides site. We plan to fully launch this new site in July. We are making changes to our structure that will help with discoverability and content searching. You can preview the new site now. To help you get up to speed with the new guidance structure, please visit our orientation page .
Excluding content from the Similarity Report
Content exclusions can include removing any matches to the bibliography or any places within a document where the author has used quotes.
Changing your settings will only change the setting for future uploads. If required, previously uploaded documents will need to be individually adjusted.
- When you are viewing a similarity report, from the sources sidebar, select Settings from the sidebar.
-
Using the checkboxes, select the content types you would like to exclude from all future documents:
Bibliography: Your Turnitin looks for header phrases associated with terminology relating to a bibliography and excludes any material following it from the Similarity Report. Your Turnitin then looks for a terminating header to resume the similarity check. A full list of beginning and terminating phrases can be found here.
Quotes: Your Turnitin looks for all content between quotation marks and excludes this text from the report. A list of supported quotation mark types can be found here.
Small Matches - # Words: Your Turnitin will remove all matches that are less than or equal to the length of the number of words supplied.
-
Changes should automatically apply, but select the Done button to confirm and close the side-bar.
